3D Project
Eris-1 is Gilmour Space’s small sat launcher capable of putting up to 305kg to a Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
The goal of this project was to make detailed, accurate and realistic 3d models of Eris’ first stage, third stage, and its Sirius motors, to explain how they work.
These models were made for my deep dive video explaining what exactly happened to Eris’ first flight, and why it failed.
These models played a key role in helping to visually showcase how these systems work, and what could have caused the failure.
This was also the first proper time I modeled a 3d model using camera matching techniques, which played a key role in getting the accuracy and details of these models.
I tried using Adobe’s Substance Painter to texture the 3rd stage, however, I then just used procedural nodes within Blender to create materials for the remaining models.
To finish, I animated several pan and tilt sequences to showcase the hardware in the video.
